2 SHOWINGS OF “RIDE THE DIVIDE” @ THE PAGEANT THEATER W. BUTTE BICYCLE COALITION – Tues. April 12, 2011
A new bicycle adventure film “Ride the Divide” will be shown on April 12th at 6 and 8 pm at the Pageant Theater in Downtown Chico as a partial benefit for the Butte Bicycle Coalition.
Ride the Divide is a feature-length documentary about the world’s toughest mountain bike race. It chronicles the story of several mountain bikers who attempt the 2,711-mile race named the Tour Divide along the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains. The movie was named the Best Adventure Film at the 2010 Vail Film Festival.
This film has become an instant cycling classic, and made its television premiere in September on the Documentary Channel. But the Adventure Cycling Association said the film should be seen on the big screen: “The cinematography is stunning!” Added UpaDowna, “Ride The Divide is one of the most inspiring real cycling movies … in a long time.” Epic Riding summed the movie up as follows: “In a word? Fantastic. In more words? Moving, funny, inspiring.”
Tickets are $10 in advance online at:
www.IMAthlete.com/Events/RideTheDividemovie
and $15 at the door before screenings at 6 and 8 pm on April 12 at the Pageant.
Please help spread the word.

“SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL” CONFERENCE IN SACRAMENTO – Nov. 12, 2010
Hello everyone,
Hopefully you have heard that the City of Chico recently won grant funding for a SRTS (Safe Routes to School) project along Manzanita Ave, PV High and Marigold to make it physically safer for kids to walk and bike to school. The Butte Bicycle Coalition is also active in supporting non-infrastructure, better known as educational and encouragement programs, to promote safe walking and biking.
Now a conference about SRTS programs is coming up in Sacramento on November 12. It is a great opportunity to learn about Safe Routes to School programs—and develop support for non-infrastructure funding.
Building on the success of last year, this year’s conference will have breakout sessions with something for everyone from Safe Routes novice to transportation engineer.
The day will include information on:
- Evaluating conditions through surveys and walk audits
- Selecting engineering treatments for roadways
- Incorporating pedestrian and bicycle education in school curriculum
- Funding Safe Routes to School
- Establishing policies supporting Safe Routes to School
- How to stay safe on the journey to and from school
Register online at sacramentosaferoutes2010.eventbrite.com.
Cost is FREE to attend with an optional $10 lunch.
We have a limited number of complimentary lunches available. Contact tpreston@walksacramento.org for more information.

“EARN-A-BIKE” BARN-RAISING @ Chapman Elem. – Sun. June 20, 2010
Hello,
The Children’s Bike Swap in May met with such success, it has inspired development of an “EARN-A-BIKE” Program in the Chapman neighborhood. First, we have to get the barn in adequate shape to house the mechanic benches and be able to store and repair bikes efficiently.
Ron Toppi has offered to organize the space this Sunday, June 20th. HELP IS NEEDED to build doors, clean up the debris, and create work space.
If you can lend a hand for an hour or more on Sunday between 10 and 2 pm, please let him know: ronbikes4peace@gmail.com or call him 588-8474. The Bike Barn is located at 1010 Cleveland, next to Chapman Elementary.
Also, if you want to get involved in the Earn-a-Bike Program but can’t make it this time, respond with an email to either Ron or me.
Pedal happily,
Karen Goodwin, MS
