DOC-NITE @ CSU-CHICO : “UNDER RICH EARTH” – Thur. April 14, 2011, 7 pm

E-ARC (Environmental Action Resource Center) presents:

“UNDER RICH EARTH”
At CSU-Chico / Ayers 120
On Thursday April 14 at 7:00 pm

“Under Rich Earth” is a story about ordinary people with extraordinary courage. In a remote mountain valley in Ecuador, coffee and sugarcane farmers face the dismal prospect of being forced off their land to make way for a mining project. Unprotected by the police and ignored by their government, they prepare to face down the invaders on their own. Their resistance ultimately leads to a remarkable and dangerous stand off between farmers and a band of armed paramilitaries deep in the cloud forest. In a world dominated by news of massacres and terrorism, Under Rich Earth is a surprising and poignant tale of hope and determination.

DOC-NITE @ CSU-CHICO: “FOR THE NEXT 7 GENERATIONS” – Thurs. Apr. 7, 2011, 7 pm

Documentary night at CSU-Chico / Ayres Hall 120
Thursday April 7, 2011 at 7:00 pm

“FOR THE NEXT 7 GENERATIONS”

In 2004, thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers from all four corners, moved by their concern for our planet, came together at a historic gathering, where they decided to form an alliance: The International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers. This is their story. Four years in-the-making and shot on location in the Amazon rainforest, the mountains of Mexico, North America, and at a private meeting with the Dalai Lama in India, For the Next 7 Generations follows what happens when these wise women unite. Facing a world in crisis, they share with us their visions of healing and a call for change now, before it’s too late. This film documents their unparalleled journey and timely perspectives on a timeless wisdom.
