GRUB Chico

Web Site: http://grubchico.org/

In Brief: Growing Resources Uniting Bellies: We want to minimize our ecological footprint. Food systems and industrial agriculture as they exist today are extremely wasteful, generating 20% of the carbon emissions for the whole country. By using organic practices & ensuring that the food we produce stays local we can minimize fossil fuel usage. We intend to nourish our community with food and knowledge & deepen its connections. Benefit nights, volunteer days, restaurant compost pick up and time spent with kids, all contribute to our sense of community. As people continue to know their farmer, as kids learn to plant veggies & as individuals learn to collaborate & share we become closer to one another & our food ... the world is ours to create!

“GASLAND”: A MUST-SEE DOCUMENTARY @ GRUB – Fri. March 11, 2011, 7-10 pm

Come see the extent of the ravages brought about in our very own backyards by the desperate and totally disrespectful exploitation of non-ceonventional natural gas trapped in underground rock beds.  Projects are being studied to start drilling and “fracking” in Northern California.  Everyone needs to understand what this will mean before our precious surface and underground water supply gets poisoned.

Friday, Mar 11 – Gasland Documentary

7PM to 10PM at the GRUB Cooperative, 1525 Dayton Rd.

The film Gasland has been nominated for a 2010 Academy Award for Best Documentary. This is a amazing film on Fracking (hydaulic fracturing) for natural gas and how it contaminates our groundwater supplies and devastates people’s lives.
