In Brief: Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. was founded in Chico in 1980 and has become a world class brewery. Sierra Nevada has incorporated sustainability into every facet of their operations. Sierra Nevada currently produces 85% of their electricity through clean, renewable, onsite sources - 1.2 megawatt fuel cells and 1.9 megawatt photovoltaic. Sierra Nevada also diverts 99.5% of their solid waste through creative recylcing and composting endeavors. Sierra Nevada produces biodiesel with the used vegetable oil generated at at their taproom and was the first to purchase a hybrid medium duty truck from Peterbilt to service their accounts locally in Chico - keep your eye out for the truck! What's New: We have purchased and are awaiting arrival of an in-vessel composting system to be placed onsite. This will be the first of its kind in the United States! We will be composting all organics generated at the brewery. This includes food scraps from the restaurant and concert venue, filter pads from the beer filtering process, some spent hops and grain, as well as landscaping debris and food scraps from break rooms.
