BARTERING TIME & GOODS – Nov. 16, 2011

From now on, this website will offer a platform to barter time and goods.   Under the title “BARTERING”, people who have goods or services that they’d like to swap will be able to create new posts that contain info on what they have to share, and what they are looking for.   A new category will soon be added to the website.

1st Barter Post and example:

Zeeko Salvage aka ZeekoBag is interested in bartering industrial sewing and repair services for locally/ecologically produced meat, a large floor-mounted drill press, or a small metal lathe.

We can sew new bags or equipment, repair tarps and awnings, or replace zippers, snaps, and velcro on heavy duty fabrics or outdoor furniture.

Contact ZeekoSalvage at 966-8186

GREEN TRANSITION CHICO’S WEBSITE UNDER ATTACK – Nov. 3, 2011

Dear friends,

GTC’s website is currently being bombarded by thousands of junk posts that have absolutely nothing to do with sustainability.  It makes it difficult and cumbersome to find the legitimate posts and to put them up on the site.   It is possible that this barrage was designed to achieve just that.   Or the site may have only fallen victim to parasitic marketing.  In either cases, the GTC team is now working on figuring out ways to protect ourselves from such onslaught.

We truly apologize for the delay in posting legitimate Chicoan posts.  Please, bear with us as we look for practical solutions.

Respectfully green regards,

Gerard Ungerman

ELECTRIC AUTO ASSOCIATION’s NEXT MEETING – Sat. May 14, 2011, 10:00 am

Hi Everyone,

The next meeting for the Chico Chapter of the Electric Auto Association will be at  10am on Saturday, May 14.  The meeting location will be at the Brandstatt Brother’s shop, 27 Rose Avenue on the west side of Chico.

For directions, please call 530-343-0331.

If you drive 20k miles a year and your car gets 20 miles-per-gallon, you will spend $5000 a year on gas at $5 a gallon.  If you drive that 20k miles in a plug-in electric conversion vehicle or production electric car, you will spend $500 to $1000 a year.  If you have solar power at home and a free re-charge outlet at work, you’ll drive for free!

At our meeting this month, we will look at the numbers and answer the following questions:

* When does it pay to convert your car to plug-in electric?
* Which cars make good conversions?
* Where are the conversion shops in Northern California?
* How hard is it to do your own conversion?
* What about reliability and repairs?

If you have been thinking about $5 gas and electric cars, please join us next Saturday, May 14th at 10am.

For you British MG fans, we are scheduled to have Peter McWade’s electric MG conversion to admire. You are also welcome to bring any other electric vehicles to meeting.  Thank you for your support.

Jerry Brandstatt, Chapter President
