BOCCE BALL COURTS – Low energy community fun in the Park.
A group called “Friends of Chico Bocce” was recently started by Mike Cannon after the success of the now Annual “Bocce Ball Tournament” organized by KZFR at the Red Tavern on Esplanade.
The main goals of “Friends of Chico Bocce” is to establish public bocce courts for our community enjoyment and to teach and promote this fun, totally non invasive game coming from Italy. Bocce is popular around the world and is a perfect communal game for families and senior citizens.
With the help of many supporters including Vice Mayor Tom Nickell, Mike is trying to convince the Bidwell Park & Playground Commission to build a double bocce court at the One Mile Recreation Area. With “Friends of Chico Bocce”, Mike would build and keep up these very low maintenance bocce courts himself.
Supporting this inititiative will not only promote an opportunity for good, friends and family-oriented communal fun, it will also promote the idea that one doesn’t need a downpour of energy and ensuing environmental impact to entertain themselves on a sunny Sunday afternoon…
Mike Cannon can be reached at MichaelwCannon@sbcglobal.net and (530) 519-4930.

YOGA IN CHICO – Free classes May 21-27, 2010
Yoga, the ancient art of uniting one’s worldly body with higher consciousness is expanding in Chico. Many of Chico’s gyms offer yoga classes and there is a growing number of yoga studios in town.
Ziva Yoga Essentials is opening a studio next to the store on Main street. From today until next Thursday (May 21-27) they will be offering free classes. There are some classes that would be good for people who want an introduction to Yoga.
Positive-I is another new local business that has yoga classes in addition to other healing practices and the first class you take there is free.
I encourage anyone and everyone to give Yoga a try and create positive change in their lives.

REVIEW: SPIRITUAL ACTIVISM event draws crowd – May 2010
What is spiritual activism and why is it important in today’s world?
People concerned with melding spirituality and activism considered these questions and others at a Sun. May 16, 2010 event at The Goddess Temple, a Chico spiritual sanctuary on Highway 32 east.
The afternoon event, sponsored by the Lotus-Guide and supported by Green Transition Chico, included a presentation and follow-up discussion.
Green Transition Chico’s Gerard Ungerman introduced the presentation offered by Rahasya Poe, book author and publisher of The Lotus Guide, a Chico newsmagazine devoted to health, spirituality, emerging consciousness, and related issues.
Poe provided background information concerning spiritual activism and explained why it is crucial at this time. Sharing key points from his latest book, To Believe or Not to Believe, Poe said, “I’m inspired to do this (talk about spiritual activism) because I know so many people who feel they don’t have to get active in the world.”
Referencing the Law of Attraction, Poe said one of the most important parts of attracting what you want is to know what you don’t want. “It (global transformation) is going to take a lot more than just positive thinking,” he emphasized, citing an Islamic adage: “Believe in Allah (God), but tie up your camel first”.
Describing humankind’s long history of polarizing reality, Poe said, “At this point, we need to graduate (from a polarizing view of the world), or we will destroy ourselves.”
Following a short break, participants—over 50 in number–took turns explaining what drew them to a spiritual activism presentation, and many shared websites detailing the work they currently carry out both locally and, in some cases, globally.
Ungerman encouraged participants to register on the Green Transition Chico website, which is designed to facilitate networking and collaboration among people in Chico and beyond who embrace sustainability, spirituality, diverse healing modalities, and affiliated topics.
Another spiritual activism event will take place in the near future. Follow posts on this website for event announcements.
