In 2004, thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers from all four corners, moved by their concern for our planet, came together at a historic gathering, where they decided to form an alliance: The International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers. This is their story. Four years in-the-making and shot on location in the Amazon rainforest, the mountains of Mexico, North America, and at a private meeting with the Dalai Lama in India, For the Next 7 Generations follows what happens when these wise women unite. Facing a world in crisis, they share with us their visions of healing and a call for change now, before it’s too late. This film documents their unparalleled journey and timely perspectives on a timeless wisdom.

This film is part of a 4-week film series hosted by the Environmental Action Resource Center (E-ARC), The Office of Diversity, STOP (Stop Trafficking Of People), EOP (Educational Opportunity Program), MAC (Multicultural Affairs Council), and CCLC (Cross-Cultural Leadership Center).

A new bicycle adventure film “Ride the Divide” will be shown on April 12th at 6 and 8 pm at the Pageant Theater in Downtown Chico as a partial benefit for the Butte Bicycle Coalition.

Ride the Divide is a feature-length documentary about the world’s toughest mountain bike race.  It chronicles the story of several mountain bikers who attempt the 2,711-mile race named the Tour Divide along the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains.  The movie was named the Best Adventure Film at the 2010 Vail Film Festival.

This film has become an instant cycling classic, and made its television premiere in September on the Documentary Channel.  But the Adventure Cycling Association said the film should be seen on the big screen:  “The cinematography is stunning!” Added UpaDowna, “Ride The Divide is one of the most inspiring real cycling movies … in a long time.”   Epic Riding summed the movie up as follows:  “In a word? Fantastic. In more words?  Moving, funny, inspiring.”

Come see the extent of the ravages brought about in our very own backyards by the desperate and totally disrespectful exploitation of non-ceonventional natural gas trapped in underground rock beds.  Projects are being studied to start drilling and “fracking” in Northern California.  Everyone needs to understand what this will mean before our precious surface and underground water supply gets poisoned.

The film Gasland has been nominated for a 2010 Academy Award for Best Documentary. This is a amazing film on Fracking (hydaulic fracturing) for natural gas and how it contaminates our groundwater supplies and devastates people’s lives.

After 20 years of legal presence in the United States, Green Transition Chico  initiator, independent documentary filmmaker and community environmentalist organizer GERARD UNGERMAN is threatened – due to a legal technicality – with a 10-year bar from re-entering the United States where he has his home, his family and his life.

Stacey Wear, his better half and himself have now contracted emergency legal counsel but they need to come up immediately with a $ 10,000 retainer.

Gerard and Stacey don’t have enough cash available.
